Viral Infections
The
most common human diseases are viral and there are literally
hundreds of types of viral conditions. They are small strands
of DNA-like cell material, consisting mostly of RNA.
A
virus is smaller than bacteria and is encapsulated by a
protective coating, making it more difficult to treat. Viruses
exist in dormant states everywhere in the environment. When
the environment is disturbed, their particles may become
airbornelanding on surfaces, clothing, and skin. Or
they can be inhaled as well. Once they find host DNA or
RNA on which to grow, they activate and then multiply within
the host cells.
Viruses
may also be Vector
Borne, meaning the virus is transmitted to the host
by an insect bite. For example, when a Mosquito carries
a virus and stings a human or animal, the virus is delivered
like an injection. Animals can also be Vector's who carry
and transmit disease.
The
Plaque,
is caused by bacterium named Yersinia pestis. The bacterium
is delivered through the bite of a flea.
